Netflix has already cancelled four shows so far this year

Netflix has always had a reputation for cancelling shows, but it’s an issue that does seem to be getting worse. In fact, cancellations are so prevalent that subscribers are finally fighting back against the streamer.

This week, Netflix subscribers took to Twitter to get “Netflix correct your mistake” trending. It certainly does feel as if Squid Game, Stranger Things, Wednesday, Bridgerton, and The Crown are the only series to be immune from the curse. I almost added The Witcher to that line-up but with Henry Cavill out of the picture, who knows what lies beyond season four. Last year saw Netflix cancel Archive 81, Locke & Key, Raising Dion, Snowpiercer, First Kill, Resident Evil, and Fate: The Winx Saga, just to name a few. Well, we’re only a couple of weeks into 2023 but Netflix has already seen off four major TV shows.

As reported by BGR, 1899 was cancelled a mere 48 hours into the new year. The mystery series saw a group emigrate from Southampton to New York City but, of course, the journey wasn’t as simple as it sounds. It’s a series best approached with little-to-no knowledge. Despite its cancellation, I’d still recommend checking it out.

Next to receive the chop was Inside Job, an animated series centred around uncovering conspiracy theories. Interestingly, Inside Job was renewed for a second season back in June 2022 but Netflix have now overturned that decision. Animated show Dead End: Paranormal Park was also killed off following its second season. Showrunners hope to conclude the story in a graphic novel.

The Neil Patrick Harris fronted series Uncoupled also will not return. Created by Darren Star, the mind behind Emily in Paris and Sex in the City, Uncoupled explored the prospects of a 40-year-old man who, after a major break-up, has to start dating again in New York City. Unfortunately, Star just couldn’t emulate the success of his other shows. I shouldn’t think it’ll be too long before another one bites the dust.
