Brace yourselves, season two of Squid Game is coming, and actor Lee Jung-jae (who played the central protagonist Seong Gi-hun in the first season) has teased that the follow-up is going to be even “bigger in scale”. Oh my.
Squid Game took the world by storm when it released in 2021 - at the time, it was estimated that over half of Netflix accounts watched the show. As such, it really wasn’t too surprising when the second season got confirmed - what is rather perplexing is the fact that it could apparently bring back dead characters in some fashion.

There are definitely some huge plans for the series going forward - Netflix apparently wants to make a whole Squid Game universe, and one insider previously claimed that a video game adaptation is in development.

Speaking to Ilgan Sports (via Allkpop), Lee revealed that filming of the second season is set to commence very soon: “Squid Game 2 will begin filming in the summer and the filming will likely last for about 10 months,” he said. “We were working on season one for about 10 months as well, but that was with delays caused by COVID-19. But seeing as season two will be bigger in scale, it will probably take longer to complete.”
Earlier in the conversation, he was asked if Lee Byung Hun, who portrayed the Front Man in season one, will play a lead role in the follow-up season, to which he said: “It's probably safe to assume that. As we all saw at the end of season one, the main plot of season two will be revenge, and the key figure who controlled the workings of the games in season one was Lee Byung Hun sunbae, so it seems that the two of us will be the central figures of this next story.”
Very exciting stuff. The second season has a lot to live up to - hopefully it’ll hit the mark.
