There are few games quite as nostalgic to a certain generation of gamers than The Simpsons Hit & Run. The 2003 title was a must-have for GameCube, Xbox, PS2 and PC, and was the source of countless good childhood memories for many.
With 2023 fast approaching, we’re also getting very close to the game’s 20th birthday (sorry to make you feel old). Despite its success though, the game still hasn’t been given the remake treatment, and fans are desperate for that to change.

Over on Change.org, a petition to “release a sequel to (or remaster of) The Simpsons Hit & Run has almost reached 30,000 signatures. The creator of the petition suggested that a modern-revisit of the game should feature more playable characters like Flanders, Krusty, Moe and even Grandpa. They also proposed that the game could have a fully open-world version of Springfield, instead of it being divided into sections like it originally was. This sounds like a dream, and the number of signatures that have been racked up prove how many people would be behind the idea.

A survey conducted by UK retailer GAME last year found that Hit & Run was the most in-demand remaster - it took 44% of the vote, and beat Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Yes, the survey was conducted before the release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, although I think some would probably argue that San Andreas is still in need of a better remaster than the one it got.
The Simpsons producer Matt Selman has also expressed that he’d love to see a remaster of Hit & Run happen, but explained that “it's a complicated corporate octopus to try to make that happen”. So, it might be some time before we ever see it become reality, but we can always hope.
