Andy Serkis returning to Lord Of The Rings for long-awaited new project

Andy Serkis returning to Lord Of The Rings for long-awaited new project

Fan-favourite Andy Serkis is officially returning to Tolkien's Middle-earth, accidentally confirming a new project.

Fantasy fans are really thriving right now. Plenty have pitted The Rings of Power and House of the Dragon against one another but the truth is, we can enjoy them both. Big budget fantasies are back, and they’re back in style - and that’s not all for Lord of the Rings fans.

Daedalic Entertainment’s The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is on the way soon, plus it was announced in August that Weta Workshop and Private Division are teaming up to work on a brand new open-world LOTR inspired game set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth. There’s one question fans keep asking though: When is Gollum actor Andy Serkis returning to the franchise? Soon, actually.

Yet to start The Rings of Power? Get a taste of what’s in store below.

The good news is that Andy Serkis is officially returning to Tolkien’s world. The bad news? It’s not as Gollum - or in any kind of film or TV format. Serkis announced (via Collider) that he will narrate an upcoming audiobook version of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Silmarillion. It actually looks like he shouldn’t have let the secret slip.

He explained, “Because I'd done an audiobook recording of The Lord of the Rings, and read the appendices, and had to read them out loud, I was quite clued up about where [The Rings of Power] was going to go, which was great, and it was really helpful because I'm going to be - don't tell anybody - reading The Silmarillion, as well. So you heard this first.”

If you’re not familiar with The Silmarillion, it’s a collection of myths and stories focused on Middle-earth’s Valinor, Beleriand, and Númenor regions. The collection was actually released posthumously. A release date for the audiobook remains unavailable at the time of writing but we’re certainly excited about Serkis lending his talent to the series once more.
