The Super Mario Bros. Movie, huh? Back when the film was first announced, I think it’s safe to say that a lot of Mario fans were quite concerned about what Illumination (the animation studio behind the Minions) would do with such a beloved franchise. However, many of those worries melted away when the first trailer was revealed - it’s undeniably gorgeous to look at, and with Jack Black as the voice of Bowser, what more could you ask for? Someone else voicing Mario? Now wouldn’t that be something.
Chris Pratt controversy aside, excitement is definitely building for the film, which is set to hit cinemas on 7 April 2023. Today (29 November) Nintendo is going to broadcast a new trailer as part of a Super Mario Bros. Movie Direct - that’s at 10pm UK time, if you’re interested. Prior to that though, as Nintendo Life reports, some alleged new posters for the movie, one of which, if real, has confirmed a previously unannounced character who fans are going to love.
Before we get into it, check out the trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie below.
First up, we’ve got an array of supposed character posters, one of which seemingly reveals what Peach looks like in the movie. We knew she’d be included, of course, she’s going to be voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy, but we’re yet to see her in a trailer. Peach aside, can we just talk about the taglines that have been included for each character? Toad fearing nothing and Luigi’s simply being, “You just got Luigi’d,” is absolutely hilarious if real.
Moving on, there is one huge new poster which sees Mario and Luigi stood in front of a van (which Nintendo Life notes was apparently listed in a toy set earlier this year). The most exciting part is more hidden though - if you zoom in to the street on the right, you can see Pauline - an iconic Mario character who first appeared in the 1981 arcade game Donkey Kong, and more recently re-emerged in Super Mario Odyssey. It hasn’t been confirmed that she’ll be making an appearance in the movie, so if this poster is real, then it’s a pretty big deal.
At the time of writing, these posters haven’t been officially confirmed to be legitimate, however, so take them with a pinch of salt. We might get some proper answers tonight when the second trailer arrives.
