Remember The Lord of the Rings: Gollum? It’d be very understandable if you’d forgotten about it - Daedalic Entertainment’s action-adventure has been in the works for some time now, and has been pushed back on multiple occasions, despite being given a concrete release date last year.
The story-driven game is set to follow the adventures of Gollum behind the scenes at the beginning of The Fellowship of the Ring. As for the gameplay, it’ll incorporate stealth elements, and players will be able to choose between letting Gollum or Sméagol having control of different scenarios.

Just two months after it was announced that the game would be coming to everything but Switch at the start of September 2022, Daedalic Entertainment revealed that Gollum was being delayed again “in order to deliver the best possible experience”. At the time, it was stated that this delay would be for “a few months”, but as Push Square reports, according to an earnings report from the game’s publisher, Nacon, it could be much longer.

The earnings report states that Gollum “will be released in the first half of [financial year] 2023-24”, which basically means it’ll be launching at some point between April and September 2023. Although the devs haven’t confirmed when exactly in that range it’ll be coming out, there’s potential for it to be delayed for a full year beyond its 1 September 2022 release date - quite a bit longer than the “few months” we were initially told to wait.
Although this is disappointing news for fans, at least the end is still in sight. It’s been said time and time again before, but it’s always better for a game to be delayed than to be rushed out poorly, so this can only be for the best in the long run.
