Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 Is Major Inspiration For Treyarch's Next Entry

The next Call Of Duty game to be developed by Treyarch is going to draw a lot from Call of Duty: Black Ops II, according to an insider with a reliable track record.

Though Activision is yet to officially state the title of the next Call Of Duty, rumours run rampant that it is Call Of Duty WWII: Vanguard. Sledgehammer Games is confirmed to be leading the game's development, which is another tick in the box for a historical setting.

Call of Duty: WWII was the last entry that was helmed solely by Sledgehammer Games, before it started to assist the development of the series with Infinity Ward, Treyarch and Raven Software. We also know that Warzone will be integral to the future of Call Of Duty, and that there could be a map coming to the battle royale that takes place somewhere in the Pacific during World War II. This will be "the series' largest and most ambitious to date" and will arrive in time for the release of Call Of Duty WWII: Vanguard.

From this, it sounds like Sledgehammer Games is going to come out swinging, but nothing surrounding the historical setting has been acknowledged by the developer nor the publisher. Therefore, we should be cautious about leaks, but we simply cannot resist this one. Tom Henderson, who has correctly revealed the natural disasters in the Battlefield 2042 among other predictions, claimed that Treyarch has its nose to the grindstone creating "a boots on the ground style COD that is similar to Black Ops 2." However, it appears as though the game won't be as futuristic as Black Ops II, which featured artificially intelligent turrets, quadcopter drones and unique weapons inspired by what was used by US soldiers in 2012.

This one will show off a much more recognisable future without the outlandishness of some of this fictional futuristic tech. In fact, Henderson claims that a lot of the more interesting ideas that were seen in Call Of Duty WWII: Vanguard have been cut out, which may mean that these have simply jumped ship to Treyarch's title. Nevertheless, without an outright confirmation from Activision or Treyarch, we can't take these claims as gospel. What we can do is chew over them and consider how they could impact Call Of Duty's biggest threat: Battlefield. We'll let you know if we hear more about this Black Ops II inspired project.

Of course, two maps from Black Ops II are dropping into Season 4 of Warzone, and as usual, there has been a split amongst players based on their opinions of the additions. Hijacked and Rush return, along with two shiny new maps in Collateral which continues the story of Season 4 "under the scorching desert sun in Algeria, where a CIA satellite has crashed into an abandoned village," and in Amsterdam, which Cold War players will recognise from that game's campaign.

Moreover, there are now dirt bikes available in Verdansk and they're highly sought after thanks to their super speeds and exciting handling qualities for those hair-raising stunts. The MG 82 LMG and the nail gun have been a pair of hot potatoes, too, with the community complaining that both weapons are extremely overpowered and skewing the meta. Raven Software did respond to the former in a very humorous manner, but it's not known whether or not the nail gun will be subject to the same nerf in an upcoming patch.
